Annulment – Annulment means the process of making something null and void. In family law, it means the process by which a court declares that a marriage never existed. When a marriage is annulled, it means that the marriage was void from the beginning. An annulment is usually only available in certain circumstances. For instance, if a person marries someone while they are already married to another person, then the second marriage is annulled. It is different from a divorce, in that a divorce decree dissolves a valid marriage.
